J.D. Gordon Biography

J.D. Gordon is a former Pentagon spokesman who served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense during the George W. Bush Administration. He later became a senior national security and foreign policy adviser to U.S. national political figures including Donald Trump, Mike Huckabee and Herman Cain. Following the presidential election of 2016 during which he served as the Huckabee Campaign’s Chief Foreign Policy Adviser and later the Trump Campaign’s Director of National Security, Gordon was formally recommended for the position of Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs in the Trump Administration.

Gordon has represented multiple think tanks and foundations based in Washington, DC as a senior fellow and adviser. He has been a columnist and contributor to The Washington Times, The Daily Caller, The Hill and USA Today, as well as a television commentator with One America News (OAN), Newsmax, Fox News, Sky News, Univision and Telemundo. Guest speaker appearances have included the U.S. Congress, various national and international parliaments, universities including Oxford and Georgetown, as well as conferences and summits in over a dozen countries on three continents.

Gordon is a retired Navy Commander who began his career in amphibious warfare and later transitioned into public affairs.  As a Navy spokesman, he deployed for numerous internationally newsworthy events over a 20-year active duty career including the Haitian and Cuban refugee crises at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; subsequent multi-national force deployment to Haiti; WW-II 50th anniversary events in the Pacific; U.S. dual-carrier operations in the East China Sea during a China-Taiwan missile crisis; NATO’s Stabilization Force (SFOR) in the former Republic of Yugoslavia; response to the Al Qaeda attack on U.S. Embassy in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania; defense of the Atlantic Fleet’s primary training range at Vieques, Puerto Rico; Special Operations Command Pacific (SOCPAC) mission to the southern Philippines following 9/11 terrorist attacks; and first USN ship visit to Vietnam in 30 years onboard Frigate USS Vandegrift.

Born in New York City, Gordon was raised at the New Jersey Shore where he graduated from Wall High School. He was commissioned as an Ensign through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program at Penn State where he received a B.A. in Communications. Gordon also holds an M.A. in Diplomacy from Norwich University, a Senior Executive Certificate from the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, and is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force’s Air Command and Staff College.
